Sour Grout
Someone once asked one of my friends what the best grout cleaning method is. I suppose the premise was, being in the grout business, he can just mention the best cleansing household formula. I didn’t know what that person was thinking asking a grout cleaner how to clean grout herself, but hey, that’s her call. My friend, being polite, jokingly told her that vinegar works like a charm (even though it doesn’t).
This exchange happened quite a bit of time back, but I remembered it on account of a website forum I stumbled across. A person on the boards was asking what the others thought the best grout cleanser is. And I was surprised that the general opinion was that vinegar did wonders. Hmm. I can’t help but think my friend may have started a myth worthy for a Mythbusters episode.
Well, I suppose vinegar would probably work. It is essentially a mild acid, after all. With a bit of elbow grease and patience, I guess you will be able to clean up certain amounts of dirt in the grout, plus a few kinds of mold. But, really, I must insist on not using vinegar. It doesn’t clean that properly, and plain detergent even works better.
If you are a resident of Tampa, it’s a really simple matter to look for professional grout experts to do the job for you. You do not need to waste time and money on homebrew solutions that are hearsay; your time and money can be invested in more productive things than scrubbing out your dirty grout.
And don’t think that you save money when you decide to clean the grout yourself instead of hiring professionals. If you don’t have the proper tools and equipment, cleaning grout will take a long while, regardless of whatever magic solution you have. It’s much more efficient to just hire a professional to do it for you.
