The great thing about a garage is that it is removed from the rest of the house and you can do all sorts of things with it if you have the room. One of the things people do to get extra space in their home is to build a small apartment either in or on top of their garages. This works nicely if your garage is big enough or if it is situated in the right place.

Using your garage as an extra room can work well if you can include outside access to it. That way you can use it as a true guesthouse where your guests can come and go as they please. This works very well for people who have a lot of relatives that need a place to stay while they are in town visiting.

More and more children are moving back in with their parents because of the economy and turning the garage into a bedroom or apartment they can live in is a good solution. To do it correctly though, you have to make sure it is properly heated in the winter so that it is livable.

Some people have detached garages and with those you have more options than with one that is connected and part of the house. Most houses do not have a garage where you can add on to it in any way and in that situation you are limited with what you can do.

Turning your part of your garage into a guest room isnt the only idea that you can have for the extra space you might have. Guys like game rooms, hobby shops, workout areas and the garage can be a perfect spot for all of those. If you think carefully about how you would like to use that extra garage space, many exciting and functional ideas will surely come to mind.
